Sporophylls are small petal-like structures that grow at the base of each alaria plant. They contain the spores that are released and grow into a new crop of alaria plants the following year. Alaria sporophylls have been found to have a high concentration of fucoidan. For the most benefit, use the sporophylls as you would alaria, in recipes for soups and stews.
